A Lent Calendar

Jesus points to the coin and asks whose image it bears. The implication is clear: Caesar’s image may be stamped on money, but God’s image is stamped on us. That truth has fueled countless movements for justice. I think of Viola Desmond, who challenged segregation in Nova Scotia not because she sought fame, but because she knew her dignity came from God, not from discriminatory laws.

When we remember whose image we bear, we find courage to resist systems that diminish human worth. Our congregation lives this out in prayer shawls offered in love, in youth learning empathy, and in worship that proclaims every person’s sacredness.

What does living out the dignity of each individual, indeed every part of creation, mean for me?

Something to think about.
