A Lent Calendar

Today is the Third Sunday of Lent. There are two stories that we will be reflecting on. The first is the story of the four daughters of Zelophehad (Numbers 27:1-11): Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. They accompanied their father for the 40 years that the Israelites wandered through the wilderness. They and their father were faithful to the community. Unfortunately, their father died before they made it to the promised land. The land was to be divided among those who had survived the journey. Unfortunately, due to patriarchal thinking, it was to be divided among the male survivors, and since their father had made it with them, they were to be excluded from receiving any land. They appealed to Moses and the elders, but where refused. Moses decided to ask God, who agreed with the daughters of Zelophehad. The covenant of God was with all the people, not just the men.

Think about a time where you listened to someone and it changed your mind about what you believed or how you were going to act. What was it that changed?

Something to think about.
