Toward the end of this section of the Sermon on the Plain, Jesus encourages his listeners to do good to those who have no intention of doing good to them. When you think of challenging interactions you have had with others, how did you respond? Do you think responding by matching their emotion or energy would have been helpful? What Jesus was suggesting is what we today call de-escalation. How might reacting in a helpful or positive way change the dynamic of situations where there are challenges?

Something to think about.
