In Jesus’ time there were many who believed that a sign that you were favoured by God was that you were well off. On the flip side, they also believed that if you were going through challenging times then you were in trouble with God. In the Beatitudes, Jesus challenges that narrative by telling those who are poor, the hungry, the weeping that God is indeed with them and is working with them to find the answers they are looking for.

 

There are many stories of faithful people who have felt closer to God when they were going through difficult times. Sometimes God works through those people who are comforting angels that remind us of God’s presence. Have you had that experience?
