New Paradigm Study Group

Since its inception in 2004 after the launch of the Canadian Progressive Christianity organization - the New Paradigm Study Group has met on one Saturday morning a month to share our experiences and understandings of what it means to be a Christian in this time and in this place.

The name of the group itself is new as we found we needed some way to identify ourselves as a group. Thinking of a paradigm as being a frame of reference the name suggests a willingness to evolve our understanding of Christianity as our own views of the world evolve. The new paradigm is not intended to suggest there is a new "right" paradigm but rather this is a study group that welcomes understandings of Christianity that are not limited to traditional interpretations. Recent books read have been authored by Bishop John Shelby Spong and Marcus Borg.

A typical Saturday morning starts with us gathering as a group to prepare for the morning's discussion and collect any resources we may be using to prompt the exchange of ideas. We then break into smaller groups providing a better opportunity for everyone to participate in the discussion of the morning's topic. Finally we come back together as a single group to share any insights that have arisen while we were in our small groups.

Contact Rev. Barry King for further information. The church office can also provide information on the date and times of future gatherings. Call 905-824-5578.
