“For one who reads, there is no limit to the number of lives that may be lived, for fiction, biography, and history offer an inexhaustible number of lives in many parts of the world, in all periods of time.” Louis L'Amour (1908-88)

We have three groups of Edenfolk currently meeting once a month from September to June.

Here is a sample from all three groups of "good reads" this year:

A Blade of Grass - Lewis De Soto
A Million Little Pieces - James Frey
The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini
Tuesdays with Morrie - Mitch Albom
The Curious Incident of the Dog In The Nighttime - Mark Haddon
Beauty Tips From Moosejaw - Will Ferguson
The Last Days of Dog Town - Anita Diamant
Three Day Road - Joseph Boyden

The First Edition Book Club meets the 2nd Saturday of the month, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

The Sequel and Book Club III meet the 2nd Monday of the month, 7:30-9:30 p.m.

We gather in our various homes, and enjoy friendship, refreshments (of course), laughter and lively discussion of the month's book selection (especially if we all have enjoyed it...not always the case, I might add).

Since book clubs have become such a popular pastime (and our three clubs are full with 10 members each).anyone interested in joining would need to spearhead a new group. Help and suggestions to get you started are readily available. How about a couples' group or a men's reading group?

Book Club 2, "The Sequel"

Eden's second Book Club, nicknamed "The Sequel", started meeting in October 2003. We have 10 members and we meet in each other's homes once a month to discuss our chosen book and socialize. In June, we have a joint book club meeting of all 3 of Eden's Book Clubs, where we will discuss The Seduction of Water by Carol Goodman. Book Club 1, "The First Edition", is generously hosting this June's gathering and providing us with breakfast.

We have read quite a variety of books over the last 3 years: dramatic fiction, comedic fiction, fantasy, biographies and other non-fiction. Some of this group's favourites were: The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold, The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown, It's Not About the Bike by Lance Armstrong, and The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.

To be honest, we don't always finish the book of the month, but that doesn't matter. The discussion is still lively. We often get way off topic, too, but part of the fun of being in a book club is getting to know the other people in the group. We bring our book suggestions to the group and let each person choose one book in the year. We don't meet over the summer, but select several summer books to be discussed in September. This summer, we read as many as we can/want of The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis, My Life So Far by Jane Fonda, and One For the Money by Janet Evanovich.
