Fugure Quest Update

During the last few months, the Future Quest team has reviewed models of governance that are currently being used and recently adopted by other United Church congregations. They are also drafting new mission and vision statements, and from those a list of Eden’s core values.

It is the team’s intention to circulate these drafts to Council and committee members in August for feedback. At the September Council meeting, the Future Quest team will present a new model of governance for Eden. These are exciting times. We are nearing the end of our 18-month period of discernment and a picture of Eden’s future is becoming clearer. In November, the Future Quest team hopes to call a congregational meeting to present our recommended new model of governance to all. Stay tuned!

WE GOT MAIL!! 

While you are travelling this summer near or far, remember your Eden family and send us a postcard or email to keep in touch.  We will keep track on our map of Canada. It was great fun last year and once again ... there just might be a prize for the one who travelled the furthest!  Who will send us our first postcard? 

 

VACATION PLANS, COTTAGES, FUN IN THE SUN???

If you plan to be away from Eden at times during the summer months, and if you are not on PAR, please remember to leave your post-dated cheques to help us pay the bills at Eden. Our expenses to operate your church do not take a vacation!

SUMMER ACTIVITY TIME HAS BEGUN !

For those who love to teach and play with children ages 3-10 this is a great opportunity!  We supply the “lesson” for the day, a craft box and you bring your enthusiasm and love.  Sign up sheets are on the table in front of the office. The Council has issued an appeal for cyclone relief in Myanmar (Burma) and is accepting donations for earthquake relief in China. Details of both crises can be found on the national website: www.united-church.ca

 

Musical Volunteers are needed for the summer

Help needed with Funeral Catering

The UCW is looking for people to make sandwiches or squares for funerals. Help is also needed the day of the funeral. If you can help and are not already on the list please call Gail Williams or Betty Monasterski . Thank you.

Personal needs items: shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, sanitary pads, toothbrushes, deodorant, diapers (size 4,5,6)
Food items: canned salmon, canned pasta, pasta sauce, tea, crackers, jam, baby juice, protein beans (lentils, kidney, black, chick peas)
cereal, baby cookies, crackers, cake mixes,  flour, hot cereal, jello, baking goods, instant coffee,  canned fruit, canned tomatoes
Household items: laundry soap, bathroom cleaners, dish soap, recycled plastic shopping bags

Do you know the original name of Eden United Church?

Join the planning committee for Eden's participation in Heritage Mississauga's Doors Open in September. This is a unique opportunity to showcase Eden's history in the Meadowvale community. We will have our first meeting in May. Sign up sheet is in the foyer or speak to Fran Murphy.

 

Confirmation Classes for 2008

Membership has its advantages, so different companies tell us. What does it mean to be a member of the United Church of Canada, specifically Eden United Church? Check out the Confirmation Page for more details and for the tentative dates for the 2008 Confirmation Classes.

 

Fundraisers . . . we can sink our teeth into!

Shoeless Joe’s Restaurant discount cards are on the table in front of the office. They have offered Eden United Church 10% back for all purchases members make with the card at their Meadowvale Town Centre location.

Caz’s Fish & Chips will also offer 10% back to Eden United Church for our purchases at their Erin Mills Parkway and Battleford location. Please remember to take the discount cards with you.

 

Baptisms

Families wishing to have their children baptized are asked to speak with Barry or Evelyn or contact the church office to register.

 

Bouquet Box

Do you know someone in our congregation that has done something nice for someone else?  Do you know someone in our congregation who works quietly behind the scenes to keep an Eden United Church program running smoothly?

Drop their name along with the reason for recognition and we'll send a note of thanks as our "bouquet" to them on behalf of the congregation.  Thanks for your help - Membership & Pastoral Care Committee

 

CANADIAN TIRE MONEY?

Don't know what to do with it? Is it taking up room in your car's glove compartment or your wallet? Don't throw it out - give it to the church…we can use it to buy gardening supplies etc.  Place it in the box provided on the literature table across from the front office. Thank You.

 

FLOWER CALENDAR

All members of the congregation are invited to place flowers in the sanctuary for Sunday worship services. Order forms are located in the church office window with the flower calendar. The contact person is Fran Murphy.  Please call NO LATER than one week prior to the date required. Thank You.
