Our Committees
Membership and Pastoral Care
Chair: Allan Horner
Broadly speaking, Eden understands pastoral care as having regard for all people associated with us. This includes those who walk through our doors for the first time. We want each person to feel connected to and loved by God as known in Jesus Christ. Pastoral care is thus central to all that we are about at Eden and we seek to ensure it for all people in a variety of ways.
Pastoral care begins with greeting all who come on Sunday morning and providing name tags. All groups and committees of the church make time for people to "check-in' with one another. Those who are not members of groups or committees are placed on a phone list in order that we might keep in regular touch with them. Cards are sent to the bereaved and shut-ins. Home and institutional visiting by ministers is regularly scheduled for those who are sick and shut in. Casseroles are taken to families experiencing a crisis of health or the loss of a family member.
One to one counseling with the ministers is easily arranged.
The Membership and Pastoral Care committee works to achieve Eden's determination to be a welcoming and nurturing congregation through various means. This group arranges for coffee hosts, greeters and ushers and provides the welcome table for Sunday Services. It works with the Ministers to provide pastoral care through its Telephone Committee, sending cards on behalf of the congregation and by offering occasional workshops. Membership Records, Baptism and New Member Orientation also fall under its mandate.
Meetings: We meet on the first Tuesday of each month.
How to Join: We invite you to participate in this part of Eden's Ministry by joining the committee OR by giving your time to any area of its mandate. E-mail Allan Horner at aandshorner@sympatico.ca for more information.
