About Eden
The Rose Window
To complement the artistry of the Creation Tapestry, Nancy Lou Patterson, Fine Arts Director at the University of Waterloo, designed a stained glass rose window to hang in the south wall of the sanctuary at the Eden Church at the Meadowvale West Church campus.
It
uses the theme of creation by tying together the Garden of Eden where
Adam and Eve were driven out because of sin, and a new Eden or Paradise,
which according to Persian mythology, was a walled garden. The flowering
cross in the centre of the window represents Christ’s Resurrection.
Although this is a contemporary rose window, it is similar to the
symmetry of the rose window that shone in the chancel wall at Eden’s red
brick church on Derry Road.
The window was installed in the sanctuary at the Meadowvale Church campus in April, 1980. Today the rose window shines as a beacon in the chancel of the new Eden church.
