Who We Are
At Eden United Church, you will find a welcoming, inclusive and diverse community who understand Christianity to be a way of life as opposed to a prescribed set of rules and beliefs. Our interpretations of the Bible and its meaning for today's world are as wide-ranging as we are and so we are invited to explore our beliefs in a variety of ways: through Worship, Traditional Bible Study groups and Small Group Ministries. We recognize spiritual growth to be a life-long journey and value our church as a safe place to question and grow in faith and compassion. Though we come from different places in our journey, we uphold the calling of Jesus to bring about justice and peace for all of creation and strive to do whatever we can to make this world a better place.
In January 2009, the Eden congregation accepted the Policy Governance model. Policy Governance is an effective form of governance, that frees up church leaders to use their spirit-given gifts, discern the will of God, and implement decisions with minimal bureaucracy and time-consuming meetings. It also frees up more of the people of the Congregation from running the church to allow them to exercise their own ministry. For more information, see our Policy Governance page.
VISION
We are a progressive Christian community that offers a safe place and the resources for people at every stage of their lives to enrich and empower themselves in body, mind and spirit. We are committed to the human journey to love more deeply and to live more meaningfully.
MISSION
Gifted by the Holy Spirit and inspired by Jesus Christ we, as members of Eden United Church, will:
Teach a progressive Christian faith
Encourage questions to promote growth or to challenge the status quo
Nurture loving community
Strive to be the change needed to bring health and wellness to the Earth and all its life forms
Act for greater peace and justice in the world.
