About Eden
Who We Are
The following is the Mission Statement of Eden United Church. It was approved By Eden's Official Board on October 28th, 1998.
AS FOLLOWERS OF JESUS CHRIST, WE ARE COMMITTED TO:
1. FOSTERING CHRISTIAN KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE OF GOD THROUGH:
- worship that reflects our diversity
- education and faith development programs and groups for people of all ages
- valuing the faith experience of children, youth and adults, and welcoming their leadership
- encouraging acts of worship at all meetings and gatherings
- sharing learning opportunities with other UCC congregations
- dialogue with those of other denominations and religions
2. BUILDING A FAITH COMMUNITY THAT IS WELCOMING, SAFE, INCLUSIVE, AND RESPECTFUL OF ALL PERSONS THROUGH:
- intentional greeting and welcoming of all who come through our doors
- encouraging children, youth and adults to participate in the worship, ministry and activities of the congregation
- offering fellowship events for people of all ages throughout the year
- taking time at meetings to ask each person "How are you"? (check-in)
- contact and communication with all members and adherents, at least quarterly
- helping everyone in the congregation to find meaningful ways to serve
- valuing the diversity of gifts brought by each person in the congregation
- respecting expression of differing views
- treasuring laughter and good humour
3. SHOWING IN TANGIBLE WAYS GOD'S CARE AND CALL THROUGH:
- helping in concrete ways those in difficult circumstance or with special needs
- supporting the world-wide mission of the United Church of Canada
- intentionally reaching out to those in our geographical area without church connection
- educating ourselves and others about current faith and life concerns including social, economic, political and environmental issues
- involving ourselves in "social action" to seek justice and peace
- encouraging financial stewardship to allow us to enlarge and deepen our mission
