Eden Cemetery

Eden Cemetery

Following the practice of the day, a burial ground was started to bury members and family beside  Switzer’s Church located on the south side of  Derry Rd and Shelter Bay.

The framed church remained until 1869 when it was dismantled and a new brick church was built across the road leaving the cemetery where it was.

Today it stands alone as a reminder of our pioneer heritage. The cemetery is the resting place of many pioneer families including the names of, Cordingly, Justin, Mason, Orr, Rutledge, Sparling, Switzer and Waite.

Eden Cemetery SignOn October 23, 2005 Eden United Church held a special dedication service of a wooden sign erected by the City of Mississauga's Parks and Recreation Department, at Eden Cemetery with relatives of the families of Rutledge, Mason, Cordingly and May in attendance.

Currently operated by the City of Mississauga's Parks and Recreation Dept, the cemetery has been named a pioneer cemetery by Heritage Mississauga.
